FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

EVERYTHING ABOUT PESTBOUND.

The most common questions about the game, the world and how you can play – answered by the developer.

The game

What is PESTBOUND?

PESTBOUND is an online open-world survival shooter for PC, developed by HACKLWORKS – the studio of solo developer Patrick Hackl from Germany. You survive in a 4 km² voxel world scarred by a plague: scavenge for food, water and equipment, hunt and fish, build a base, keep a vehicle running and fight plague-infected creatures, alone or with friends.

Where will I be able to play?

PESTBOUND is coming to PC on Steam. You can support development on Kickstarter now. The Steam store page is coming soon.

When will PESTBOUND be released and how much will it cost?

A release date and price have not been announced yet. PESTBOUND is in active development. The best way to follow the game is to back or follow the Kickstarter campaign and to wishlist PESTBOUND on Steam as soon as the store page is live.

Is PESTBOUND a zombie game?

The threat in PESTBOUND is the plague: infected creatures roam the forests, roads and abandoned settlements, and a quiet search through a house can turn into a fight in the doorway. If you enjoy zombie survival games, the core loop of scavenging, staying fed and fighting the infected will feel familiar.

Is PESTBOUND a voxel game?

Yes. The whole world is built from voxels, and that matters for gameplay: cover can break, explosions leave debris and a damaged wall can change an encounter. PESTBOUND combines that voxel world with survival mechanics and shooter combat.

Which games is PESTBOUND similar to?

Players who enjoy open-world survival games such as DayZ, 7 Days to Die, Project Zomboid, SCUM or Rust will recognise many ideas: scavenging abandoned houses, managing hunger and thirst, building a base, repairing vehicles and deciding who to trust. Compare PESTBOUND with other survival games →

Playing together

Can I play alone or with friends?

Both. PESTBOUND is an online open-world survival shooter. Live independently in the world or team up with friends to explore, gather supplies and build a base together.

What is the difference between PvE and PvP?

On PvE servers, you survive against the world and its infected creatures, with combat between players disabled. On PvP servers, other players can also be a threat.

Is PESTBOUND a co-op survival game?

Yes, you can survive cooperatively with friends: explore together, split up tasks, bring different equipment, share a base and look out for each other when the infected close in.

Survival & world

What can I do in the world?

Explore 4 km² of countryside and abandoned settlements. Loot, hunt, fish, prepare food, build a base and repair vehicles. Food, water and looking after your wounds are part of daily survival.

How does survival work in PESTBOUND?

Hunger and thirst matter every day. You search kitchens and houses for supplies, fish at the water’s edge, hunt in the countryside, prepare food by the fire, drink, and treat your wounds. Survival continues long after the shooting stops. See all survival features →

Can I build a base?

Yes. Gather materials and build your own base anywhere in the open world – alone, making every choice your own, or together with friends as a shared home.

Are there vehicles?

Yes. Find a vehicle to follow the roads and travel between settlements. Search for replacement parts such as fuel, batteries, spark plugs and wheels to keep it running.

How big is the map?

The PESTBOUND world is 4 km² of forests, countryside, roads and abandoned settlements, built entirely from voxels.
