A self-built base at the edge of a village: walls in different construction grades, a workshop and a territory flag

Development update: base building, crafting and vehicle impacts

Update 0.1.5 adds base building with four construction grades, crafting up to your own ammunition, realistic vehicle impacts and smoother performance. An overview of what is new.

Survivors in Vorna can now build a base of their own. This update also brings crafting at the workbench, realistic vehicle impacts and smoother performance with the same look.

Base building

Open the building catalog with a building plan in your inventory and a hammer in your hands. Foundations, walls, doors, windows, floors, stairs and roofs snap to a grid and adapt to the terrain. A hologram shows where a piece fits – and, if it does not, why.

Every piece goes through four construction grades: frame, wood, reinforced and metal. Pieces can be upgraded, repaired and dismantled. They also need support: when a supporting wall falls, whatever rests on it comes down with it.

Storage, locks and territory

Crates, cabinets, shelves, steel lockers and weapon racks keep your loot, across restarts as well. Doors, gates and storage take a combination lock or a code lock.

A territory flag claims the land around your base. Inside it, only you and the players you authorise can build. The flag's upkeep chest takes a share of building materials; without upkeep, a base slowly decays. On PvE servers other players cannot damage your structures. On PvP servers raiding is possible, but slow and loud.

Crafting and ammunition

The CRAFT tab of the catalog lists every recipe: planks, nails, metal sheets, tools and locks – by hand, at the workbench, at the reloading bench or by a fire. Ammunition stays scarce: black powder is mixed from saltpetre, charcoal and sulphur, bullets are cast from lead, and cases and primers only come from loot.

When a vehicle hits

Players, infected and animals hit by a vehicle are now thrown depending on speed and angle, tumble and come to rest on the ground. In multiplayer every player sees the same result. Collisions between vehicles in multiplayer have been improved as well.

A cleaner world, smoother performance

Objects in the world no longer stick into each other. The game also runs noticeably smoother on the same hardware, without changes to the look. A new benchmark in Settings › Graphics shows how PESTBOUND runs on your PC.

Field guide in German

The wiki is now also available in German and has a new section on base building and crafting.
