Claim the land
A territory flag claims the ground around it – about 30 metres in every direction. You can own one flag, and two claimed areas keep a little distance from each other. Inside your territory only you and the players you authorise may build, upgrade, repair or take pieces down. Authorise your group or the players standing next to you in the action menu at the flag.
Upkeep and decay
The flag has an upkeep chest. From time to time the base takes its share of planks, nails, sheet metal and scrap from it – the bigger the base, the more it needs. The catalog shows how long the stored upkeep lasts.
- Empty chest: every piece in the territory slowly loses condition.
- No flag at all: pieces lose condition faster. Abandoned bases disappear by themselves.
- Singleplayer: no upkeep and no decay.
Doors and locks
| Lock | How it works |
|---|---|
| Combination Lock | Three digits. Every try takes a moment, so guessing the code is slow. |
| Code Lock | A keypad with four digits. After a few wrong codes it locks up for a while. |
Whoever enters the right code may open it until the code changes. The owner always opens; code locks also open for the members of your territory. Doors, gates and storage take locks.
PvE, PvP and the infected
| Where | What happens to your base |
|---|---|
| PvE servers | Other players cannot damage your structures at all. |
| PvP servers | Raiding is possible: melee tools, guns, grenades and the Improvised Charge damage pieces. Metal holds out far longer than wood. Raiding is slow and loud – it is heard far away, and the infected come to the noise. |
| Singleplayer | There are no other players, but your own pieces take damage like anything else. |
The infected only hit doors and walls when one stands between them and you. Hammering, upgrading and raiding draw them in.
Where you cannot build
- Inside or on top of the houses and other buildings of the map.
- On roads – foundations, fences and flags.
- Right in front of the doors of map buildings.
- Into the ground, vehicles, players, the infected, animals or items lying around.
- More than 5 storeys above your lowest foundation.
Beds and sleeping bags
In singleplayer a bed or sleeping bag is where you wake up after death – choose “Set as respawn point” in the action menu. On multiplayer servers beds are furniture only.
