An item must fit one pocket
Every item takes up a rectangle of slots. Clothing and bags can have several separate pockets: a vest with twelve slots does not necessarily take a 3 × 4 item – it needs one pocket of the right shape. Item pages show each pocket.
Rotating an item swaps its width and height. Everything has weight: loaded magazines include their rounds and a packed bag its contents. Heavy vehicle parts don’t fit in pockets, bags or vehicle cargo – carry them in your hands.
Equipment and attachments
Equipment goes into slots such as torso, legs, head, vest, back and shoulder. Attachments need a matching slot on the weapon. Some lights and grips need a particular handguard first – check the compatibility lists on the item pages.
Attachment slots on the weapon
In the inventory, the weapon slot shows a small field for every attachment point the weapon has: magazine, optic, muzzle, stock, handguard, grip, light, laser or bayonet. Drag an attachment onto the weapon and the matching fields light up. To take it off, drag it out of its field, double-click it or right-click and choose remove.
Condition
Items go from Pristine through Worn, Damaged and Badly damaged to Ruined. Worn weapons are less accurate from the hip, damaged clothing keeps you less warm, and ruined items stop working. Crafting blades need some condition left.
Repairing and disinfecting
Drag a repair kit onto a damaged item (or the item onto the kit). Each use makes it one condition level better, up to Worn – nothing gets back to pristine, and ruined items cannot be repaired. Each use takes part of the kit; the item’s tooltip names the kits that fit.
| Kit | Repairs |
|---|---|
| Weapon Cleaning Kit | Firearms |
| Sewing Kit | Fabric clothing and backpacks |
| Duct Tape | Patches fabric clothing and backpacks |
| Leather Sewing Kit | Leather clothing and footwear |
| Sharpening Stone | Knives, axes, machetes, shovels and other blades |
| Electronics Repair Kit | Radio, GPS, night vision, lamps and scopes |
| Epoxy Putty | Helmets, masks, plastic cases and body armour |
Disinfectant spray, alcohol and iodine clean rags and bandages the same way – see first aid.
Useful gadgets
Use a gadget from your inventory or hands: the GPS Receiver shows your position and altitude, the Compass your bearing, the Rangefinder the distance to what you look at. Binoculars bring things closer. With a Handheld Radio you hear and talk to players on the same channel, wherever they are; a Megaphone carries your voice much further. The GPS, rangefinder, radio and megaphone need a 9V Battery in your pockets.
A Kitchen Timer or Alarm Clock can be set to ring a little later – loud enough to draw infected to where you left it.
Searching containers
Every container has its own storage space and kinds of loot. The container list shows all 50 containers, what they hold and where they stand.
